A few days ago on La.Rue, I published the 5 Easy Ways to Begin Changing Your Routine. In that post, I discussed the importance of having a “positive impact” habit. This means that you have a habit that you include in your daily routine that somehow betters you. Today on La.Rue, I’m going to share what I think are some of the best positive impact habits you can include in your daily routine to continue bettering yourself. Now that we’ve gone over how to create your most positive and productive routine, we can dive deeper into what habits are more important to include. So, whoever you are, or whatever your role, at least one of these habits will fit into your schedule. There are places in our lives we could all improve in. We all have things we wish we were better at or knew more about. By adding one of these positive impact habits into your life, you’ll begin to achieve that goal.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it 100 more times. Journaling is such an amazing way to get in touch with your emotions. It’s a way for you to connect to your thoughts and feelings about your day. Some people may not find this incredibly important, but when you’re utilizing a journal like the 6-Minute Diary, it offers specific questions that prompt you to look deeper; over time, you’ll find that you’re feeling more and more connected to your emotions and who you are.
No matter the screen: phone, TV, laptop, iPad, I think many of us could use a breather from technology. When you’re busy during the day, it’s easier to stay off your phone and try and focus on your work. But if you’re someone who works at a computer all day and then you’re so wiped from the day, you go home to watch 3 hours of tv; your screen time is an entire day. Think about how you can reduce this time daily. If you’re at a computer all day, go home and listen to music while you cook dinner instead of having the TV on. Simple things will help you reduce this time. Keep your eyes off the screen and remember, not everything has to involve technology.
Do you want to learn more about a topic you love? Podcasts are a fantastic way to learn about anything and everything. There are podcasts nowadays for every subject you can think of. Do you want to know more about politics? More about Music? Literature? Anything you want to know more about, there is a podcast for that. I use podcasts as a part of building my knowledge on creating a successful brand and blog. A lot of the women I listen to share incredible success stories and fantastic advice. Podcasts are a way to connect with other people and their ideas, and I highly recommend them.
Physical activity, light or heavy, is a great way to clear your head and reflect on your day. This is a great time to leave your phone at home and take the dog for a walk. Every night, my parents and I leave our phones behind and walk our pup up to the mailboxes in my mom’s community. It’s a nice time for us to talk, enjoy the weather and the each others company. A simple habit like this will help you feel more relaxed, determined to get more done and feel better about your day. If you’re not someone who likes to go for walks or lives in a climate where it’s cold half of the year, try some indoor yoga or meditation. Simply relaxing your body and taking some time to clear your head will certainly help you end your day on a positive note.
Many people have a big desire to read but are often too overwhelmed by the choices or don’t really know what genre of book they enjoy. Well, Goodreads is an absolutely fantastic resource for someone who doesn’t know what books they enjoy or does know but doesn’t know where to find them. When you make an account on Goodreads, you’re opened to hundreds and hundreds of recommendation lists. Book fanatics like me have created these lists to help you find your next read. Their lists are as general as Best Books of 2020. Or as specific as Best Young Adult Science Fiction in 2017. Whatever books you like to read, you will find great recommendations. And, if you’re the person who needs general recommendations, but you know what you don’t like, you can weed them out that way too.
I know this seems small, and I’ve talked about it before in my Creating a Routine that Works for You blog. But, making your bed each morning and tidying up your room can make such a positive impact on your mood and your energy for the day. Having a clean space inspires you to work hard and offers a little extra motivation. I know it can seem tedious sometimes, but truthfully, I believe it’s little things like this that make an impact in your day. When you have a clean space, especially one you spend so much time in, it offers you great comfort and happiness in knowing that you take care of a space that takes care of you. Set a positive tone for your day, and simply take 5 minutes to make your bed each morning.
Your daily routine should always include some sort of self-care. Taking care of yourself, your mind, and your body should be habit and never something that is forgotten. You have an obligation to yourself to always put yourself and your needs first. If you don’t, your ability to perform well in any area of your life becomes lessened. Maybe you enjoy baths or pampering yourself, or a simple glass of wine. Whatever you prefer, try and do something every day for at least half an hour to relax and calm down from the day.
Going way back to the first blog posted after launch, The Importance of Daily Yoga & Meditation. I discuss why daily meditation is important and how it helps build clarity and reason in your life. Meditation is a great way to calm yourself down and refocus in frustrating or high-stress situations. When you ignore outside influences, you’re able to focus on your breathing and connect with your body. Meditation is a great way to deconstruct a situation and understand how to go back and reapproach it to calm your stress. Try incorporating meditation into your routine and use it the next time you feel stressed out.
I sincerely hope you find some of these habits helpful, and you begin incorporating them into your daily routine. Remember, start with something small, and don’t overwhelm yourself with too much change. Download the La.Rue Habit Tracker below or on the freebies page and begin implementing one or even two of these habits into your life and begin seeing positive changes!
